Tikal
If you want to see the granddaddy of the Mundo Maya (Mayan World), hop on a Tropic Air flight to Flores, Guatemala. You’ll have to clear customs leaving Belize and as you enter Guatemala, so don’t forget your passports.
As soon as you deplane in Flores our van will pick you up and drive you to this unbelievable site of extensive and on-going excavations.
Tikal is one of the largest archaeological sites in the entire Mayan world, and features the tallest structures of their kind in all of Central America. The main temple is by far one of the most impressive in the entire Mayan world and one of the most photographed temples of the Mayan civilizations, second only to Chichen Itza, in the Yucatan, which is probably the most photographed temple on Earth. From the top, you can look out across the jungle and see dozens and dozens of other structures protruding through the dense rainforest.
Imagine this setting 1500 years ago when the city of Tikal was a bustling hive of activity, covering over 16 square kilometers and having over 3,000 structures. With an estimated average population of 45,000, Tikal was a powerful kingdom and dominated much of this region.
The museum at Tikal can now show and tell the mysteries that have eluded mankind for so long. With each year of new excavation and scientific research, the secrets of the Mayan past are being revealed. Be the first to learn about their mysterious past.
You have the option to spend the night at the Jaguar Lodge, near Tikal. There’s nothing like the sounds of the jungle at night. It’s mystical, mysterious and enthralling all at the same time. Since you’ll be at one of the most popular archaeological sites in Central America, why rush the experience? Spend the night and extend your adventure. You’ll be glad you did. The accommodations will be just what the doctor ordered.
When you get back to the Belizean Princess from this grand excursion, you’ll be ready to chow down at Pineapples on the beach. Whether it’s a burger or a juicy rib eye steak, we have what you’re hungry for, cooked just the way you like it. Enjoy! Pineapples is located in Ramon’s Village Resort, which is located just across the street from the Belizean Princess.
